More than 20 people on Saturday August 19, died in a ghastly road accident along the mile 29 Ekona-Muyuka stretch of road.
The incident which occurred early Saturday, has left many Cameroonians devastated. According to eyewitness account, a truck transporting Chocolates, Sweets and Crates which was descending the mile 29 hill ,lost control and violently hit an oncoming bus on its way to Buea around 5 am. Going by reports, another vehicle was trapped beneath the truck.
The accident’s victims were members of a Buea based dance cultural group who were returning from animating a funeral in Kumba. Since the news of their demise, many citizens from Buea where a majority of deceased victims come from, say they still in shock. Some of the victims have been identified and buried while others are still at the Buea mortuary.
It should noted that not less than 200 lives have been lost on same spot since the tarring of the Buea-Kumba road. Many have attached the many accidents to witchcraft and have called on religious leaders to pray against such incidents. Other Cameroonians are calling on the government to strike while the iron is still hot and multiply speed brakes along the road in the bid prevent such accidents from occurring again.
